In 1996, a small export management business became the springboard for a new company called Spindustry Systems, Inc.

In October of that year, Michael Bird, James Brown and Stephen Fry co-founded Spindustry Systems.  In those early years, our team spent a lot of time working on database design and managing information for a number of companies, primarily in central Iowa.

In our first five years we grew from a handful of people to about 20.  What is perhaps most unique is that a majority of original “Spindonians” are still a part of the team today.

By 1998 we were building web applications to expand the reach of information management and helping organizations market themselves using the Internet.

In the early 2000s we began to expand beyond Iowa.  We started doing business in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.  And what’s really interesting is that we kept hearing what great work we produced.  Unlike similar firms in larger markets, our team stayed consistent from month-to-month and year-to-year.  With continued growth and experience, Spindustry Systems expanded into new areas, like event management campaign tracking and online print ordering systems.

Along our journey we added two sister companies:  Spin Ventures, Inc. in 1999 and Spindustry Technical Training in 2004.  Those companies live on today as Spindustry Onsite and Spindustry Training, respectively.   Also in 2005 we changed our name to Spindustry Interactive to better reflect our mission.  Throughout this period we continued to add to our team and to our base of great clients.  By 2006 we were serving clients across the US, Canada, Europe, Mexico and certainly in our home base of Des Moines, Iowa.

In 2011 we celebrated our 15th year, having grown our staff by about three-fold.  As we reflected on our first 15 years it was clear that it was time to do what we had been working towards all these years; we decided to become a full service digital marketing agency.  To reflect this new evolution we again changed our name, to Spindustry Digital.

Along with this change has come new, talented people, capabilities and new office facilities that better reflect our strategic agency mindset.  Serving client partners through many marketing initiatives, while always keeping the digital focus, is our daily passion.

Over the years we have been recognized by Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 500 and Inc. 5000 lists, Iowa Governor’s Council for Economic Growth, Ernst and Young's Regional Entrepreneurs of the Year Finalists and the Des Moines Business Records’ Best of Des Moines accolades numerous times.  While all of these awards are nice, they pale in comparison to our long list of great client partners, a number of whom have been with us since our earliest days, with many others joining us along the journey.

The future is, indeed, bright…
